Context: The titel is the frizian translation of the well known latin aphorism ‘Carpe Diem’ (seize the day). The chosen imagery refers to a tradition in dutch ‘still life’ painting and printmaking going back to the 17th century to show elements of vanity and death next to abundant material wealth.
Source material: (1) soap bubbles (2) an illustration from a book by Guy Marchant published in 1492, depicting one of the first ‘Danse macabre’ painted on one of the walls of the Holy Innocents’ Cemetery in Paris in 1425.
